Bakers Cemetery Trail

July 11th, we decided to try out Bakers Cemetery Trail at Montgomery Bell State Park. This one is about a one mile roundy with some interesting history.

Our obligatory trailhead shot. I am going to get him out of that lilac beanie one of these days.
Another very well marked and easy to follow trail. We are really appreciative of the groundskeeping at this park.
We didn’t expect it, but the FUNGUS was probably the most interesting part of this trail. Lots of colors and varieties growing everywhere.
In places, the trail is completely carpeted with soft green moss.
This one is called a Fistulina, and is allegedly edible, but…no thanks. I’ll just have water.
Look at this lil ant just living his best life in this fluffy moss forest.
We found the cemetery. Quite a few graves, with a number unmarked. These old cemeteries full of caved in wooden caskets are a little extra creepy, with the indentations they leave behind. Lil buddy was ready to go as soon as I was, that’s for sure.
More fungus! He’s so cute though.
Finally something that isn’t still life. We kept seeing and hearing motion from these little toads but they are so hard to spot because they are perfect leaf-litter camo color.
The perfect end to a Saturday night hike? Yep.
This is not hike related, but after a long year of refusing to get his hair cut, my oldest agreed to a trip to the barber. What did he pick? A glorious mullet! Free TN Vols tee shirt with every mullet. Just kidding. I bought the tee shirt AND the mullet.

Spillway Trail

We decided to check out the first trail that park staff recommended.

Spillway trail at Montgomery Bell State park is an easy half mile out and back. We started at the Warehouse trailhead.

The scenery is beautiful as the trail follows Will Hall creek through the lush, green forest.

The trail is very well defined and marked. You can pretty much always see two yellow trail markers like this so you know which way you are headed. The trail had some rocks and roots. Probably not flip-flop friendly, but we did fine in our sneaks.

We saw enough critters to keep everybody entertained. The most enchanting part of this hike were the plentiful fireflies buzzing around the forest floor, I just couldn’t get a pic to do those justice.
The spillway at the end of the trail.
10/10 will hike again!
Kiddo asked for my camera and said “Mom, you love hiking so much that your sweat is heart shaped.” He knows me. So well.
