July 11th, we decided to try out Bakers Cemetery Trail at Montgomery Bell State Park. This one is about a one mile roundy with some interesting history.
Our obligatory trailhead shot. I am going to get him out of that lilac beanie one of these days.Another very well marked and easy to follow trail. We are really appreciative of the groundskeeping at this park.We didn’t expect it, but the FUNGUS was probably the most interesting part of this trail. Lots of colors and varieties growing everywhere. In places, the trail is completely carpeted with soft green moss. This one is called a Fistulina, and is allegedly edible, but…no thanks. I’ll just have water. Look at this lil ant just living his best life in this fluffy moss forest.We found the cemetery. Quite a few graves, with a number unmarked. These old cemeteries full of caved in wooden caskets are a little extra creepy, with the indentations they leave behind. Lil buddy was ready to go as soon as I was, that’s for sure.More fungus! He’s so cute though.Finally something that isn’t still life. We kept seeing and hearing motion from these little toads but they are so hard to spot because they are perfect leaf-litter camo color. The perfect end to a Saturday night hike? Yep.This is not hike related, but after a long year of refusing to get his hair cut, my oldest agreed to a trip to the barber. What did he pick?
